The Daily Essentials:

6 Foot Nylon Leash

A 6 foot nylon leash will be necessary for your daily walks with your pomsky. Make sure the leash has a comfortable handle for you to hold onto, and the metal clasp that connects to your dog’s collar is not too heavy.

20-30 Foot Nylon Leash

Use a 20-30 foot leash to give your pomsky more freedom while playing outside. You can also use this when training your pomsky dog to play fetch.

Poop Bags with Holder

Make sure you purchase poop bags and a holder that can easily be attached to your leash.

X-Small Collar with Dog Tag

When you bring home your new puppy, they will be so small and will need an extra small collar. This can be adjusted or a new collar may need to be purchased as your pomsky grows. Also purchase a dog tag with your puppy’s name on one side, and your contact information on the other side.

Harness

Pomskies sometimes like to pull on the leash when walking, so we recommend using a harness. Using a harness ensures that your pomsky dog does not choke themselves by pulling or slip out of their collar. Find out more about when to use harness vs. collars with pomskies.

Metal Crate

A metal crate is necessary to provide your puppy a safe space when you are away from home and during the night. These can also be used to keep your pomsky secure during car rides.

Play Pen with Cover

A metal play pen with a cover can be used with the metal crate to create a space for your pomsky to stay while you are out of the home or if you can’t supervise your pomsky. Your pomsky will enjoy having space to play and walk rather than being contained to only a crate. The metal fence can also be used to block areas of the home (kitchen, downstairs, etc.) to create boundaries for your pomsky.

Medium Dog Bed

Purchase a durable dog bed that fits inside the metal crate. Your pomsky will love curling up in the dog bed and this will make their crate and play pen more comfortable.

Food and Water bowls

Make sure you have stainless steel food and water bowls that are the perfect size for your pomsky puppy. Stainless steel bowls are easy to clean, less likely to break or shatter, and prevent bacteria from growing.

Grooming Supplies:

Nail Trimmer

You will need a nail trimmer so you can trim your pomsky’s nails whenever they become too long. We recommend you use a nail trimmer that has a safety guard.

Brush

Your pomsky will need to be brushed at least once a week to remove extra fur and keep their fur coat feeling soft and silky. Choose a brush that helps remove your pomsky’s undercoat.

Paw Wipes

Purchase paw wipes that can be used to wipe your pomsky’s paws after playing outside or going on walks. Use hypoallergenic paw wipes that are gentle and don’t have a strong smell, but still remove dust, dirt and salts on the road.

Puppy Shampoo

You will want to have puppy shampoo so you can give your pomsky baths. Pomskies do not need baths very often, but you should always give them a bath anytime they are dirty, after going swimming, or after playing with other dogs at a dog park or dog daycare.

Food and Treats

Dog Food

There are a variety of healthy dog foods that are recommended for pomskies. You can check with your breeder or veterinarian to learn about specific recommendations for you puppy. We recommend that you ask your breeder what food they have been feeding your puppy and if they can send some home with you. It is important to ease your puppy into new foods gradually to prevent upset stomach. Our pomsky eats Taste of the Wild dog food, but it depends on your personal preference and what your puppy is willing to eat.

Training Treats

Soft bite size treats should be used to treat your pomsky while you are training them. These can be given as rewards after your pomsky follows a command (e.g. sit), to fill a puzzle toy, or to distract your pomsky from barking or other behaviors. We recommend treats with natural ingredients such as Zuke’s Mini Naturals or Pupford Freeze Dried Training Treats.

Toys and Games

Treat Dispensing Toys

There are a variety of toys that are designed to have treats inserted into them. The Starmark UFO is durable and a great size for pomskies. The IQ Treat Ball keeps your pomsky active, since they have to push it around the home. The Kong Goodie Ribbon is durable, easy to clean and satisfies your dog’s need to chew – you just insert a small treat into the openings.

Puzzle Toys

Puzzle toys keep your puppy’s mind active and reduces their boredom. They often include pieces that slide, rotate, or open to reveal treats. Puzzle toys are a great way to give your pomsky mental exercise, especially when they are home alone.

Nylon Bones

Nylon Bones are great for satisfying your pomsky’s need to chew. They are typically long lasting and a safer than alternative options such as rawhide, raw bones, or antlers. Our favorite nylon bones include Benebones (especially the salmon one) and Nylabones.

Rubber Ball

Use rubber balls when playing fetch with your pomsky. They are made with durable rubber that can be cleaned more easily than traditional tennis balls.

Lick Mat

Lick mats are silicone textured mats that dogs lick treats off of. People often spread peanut butter or other dog foods or treats on a lick mat to keep their dog occupied and calm. When your dog has to focus on licking treats off of the lick mat it creates a soothing effect, so it is great to use during thunderstorms, fireworks or other times when your pomsky might feel anxious.

Snuffle Mat

Snuffle mats will fulfill your pomsky’s need to dig and forage for food. A snuffle mat requires your dog to use their nose to find their food and it slows them down while eating.

Optional Supplies:

Snuggle Puppy

The Snuggle Puppy is a stuffed animal that has a heart beat and warming pack that helps small puppies adjust to being away from their mom and littermates.

Training Clicker

Clickers can be used to mark each time your pomsky follows a command correctly. For example, if you were teaching your pomsky to sit, you would say “Sit”, then click and give a treat. Your pomsky will begin to associate the clicking sound with good behavior and receiving a treat.

Frisbee

Frisbees can be used to play fetch with your pomsky. Your dog might enjoy catching a frisbee in their mouth or watching it glide. These are great for playing in the water too.

Life Jacket

If you plan on taking your pomsky to the beach, lake or pool, you might want to get them a life jacket. This ensures that your dog will stay afloat while they play in the water.

Food Storage Container

Keep your pomsky’s kibble sealed and off of the ground with a dog food storage container. This is especially important if you plan on buying large bags of dog food (e.g. 20+ lb bags).

Travel Water Bottle

You may want to get a travel water bottle for your pomsky so you can easily offer them water while you are on walks or other adventures away from home. Insulated stainless steel water bottles will keep your dog’s water cold and these are easy to clean.

Summary

You will want to have the right supplies when you bring your new pomsky home. There are essential supplies, grooming supplies, food, treats, toys and more.
