Do Pomskies Get Along with Kids?

Before you adopt a pomsky, you will want to make sure they are a good fit for your family. This post discusses pomskies and babies, pomskies and children, pomskies and adults and pomskies and older adults so you can decide if a pomsky is right for you.

Things to Keep in Mind

Each pomsky will have a different temperament and may behave differently based on how well they are trained or their personality. Pomskies are generally protective and love attention from others. Pomsky dogs are smart, so they will learn if they should trust or get along with animals and people based on their experiences. Help your pomsky dog make positive associations with new people and places by giving them treats and praise during each experience.

Pomskies and Babies (Ages 0-2)

When you are thinking of introducing your pomsky dog to a baby, consider the age and temperament of your pomsky. It would not be a good idea to introduce a new pomsky puppy to a baby, as they may not know whether they can bite or jump on top of the baby. If your dog has received training and knows to play with toys (not fingers) then you can introduce your pomsky to a baby. A good interaction between your dog and the baby will include your pomsky sniffing the baby, and possibly attempting to lick them. Be careful about where your pomsky’s paws are so they do not scratch the baby. Also consider the size difference between the baby and the pomsky. Make sure the baby is being held above the pomsky, to prevent them from being stepped on or knocked over by your pomsky dog.

Pomskies and Children (Ages 3-18)

Pomskies are great for energetic children who love to run around and play with their dog. Pomskies love attention and affection, so they will get along well with active children who want to play fetch or tug with their pomsky. Make sure your pomsky is well trained and knows not to bite and to not get too rough while playing. Children can also begin to learn how to care for animals by giving your pomsky food and water or helping brush and groom them. A family with children and a pomsky will be busy because both pomskies and children require a lot of attention and care. Luckily, the children and pomsky can entertain each other.

Pomskies and Adults

Pomskies get along best with adults who are active, energetic and can provide them the attention they need. Pomskies require at least 1 hour of exercise each day, as well as playtime and mental stimulation through puzzle toys or other games. Pomskies are great for couples who can give their dog a lot of attention and divide the training and playtime between two people. Pomskies and Older Adults

As previously stated, pomskies are full of energy and require a lot of attention and exercise. Pomskies are smart and curious, so you need to be ready to chase after them when they steal your sock or start digging at the carpet. We recommend that older adults who are not as active do not get a pomsky. Pomskies require a lot of patience, training, exercise and play time, which might not be a good fit for an older person’s lifestyle. However, if the older adult is quick on their feet and loves an active lifestyle, then the pomsky might be a great fit for this person. Learn everything you Need to Know Before You Buy a Pomsky so you are well prepared.

Summary

Pomskies can get along with babies, children, couples, and older adults. Whether or not a pomsky is a good fit for your family depends on the pomsky’s temperament, training and your lifestyle.
