Ignore the Behavior

When your pomsky is biting you, stand up and put your hands behind your back to ignore the behavior. This will make sure your puppy doesn’t learn to bite as a “game”. Ignoring the behavior helps dogs learn that biting doesn’t result in any positive reinforcement or attention from their owner.

Training with Vocalizations

If your pomsky bites you, they may not have learned how to play gently with their littermates. You can produce a high pitched “yipping” noise similar to what a small puppy would produce if they are bitten. This will teach your dog that biting hurts others. Another option is to make a low pitched growing noise, similar to the way a mother dog would teach their puppy that biting is not okay.

Replace the Object

Pomskies might chew on or bite blankets, carpet, furniture or other items in the home. This destructive behavior can be redirected by replacing the object your pomsky is chewing on with an object of a similar texture. For example, if your puppy is chewing on a blanket or carpet, replace this with a snuffle mat. If they are chewing on a wooden chair, replace it with a wooden bone for chewing. Other examples include replacing an electrical cord with a rope toy, replacing a plastic object with a nylon bone or replacing a pillow with a stuffed dog toy.

Redirect Attention with Games

Your puppy may be biting as their way of telling you that they are bored. Entertain your pomsky with a puzzle toy, by playing fetch or playing tug of war. Playing games with your puppy will show them that they can interact with you in positive ways.

Use Bitter Spray

If the strategies listed above have not been successful, you can purchase a bitter spray that will deter your dog from biting or chewing on objects. Only spray this on inanimate objects that your puppy has repeatedly attempted to bite or chew on.

Summary

Pomskies will sometimes bite when they are feeling extra playful or bored. This post provided a variety of ways to reduce your pomsky’s biting behavior including replacing the items, ignoring the behavior, redirecting your pomsky’s attention and more.
