Cheesy Carrot and Oatmeal Treats for Dogs

Ingredients:

·       2 tsp baking powder

·       2 cups whole wheat flour

·       ½ cup carrot – finely shredded

·       ½ cup Greek Yogurt – Nonfat, Plain, No Xylitol, and free of any added sweetener

·       ½ cup shredded medium cheddar cheese

·       1 cup old fashioned oats

·       1 egg

·       1/3 cup chicken broth (no salt added, no onion or garlic)

 Directions:

1.     Preheat oven to 325°F.

2.     Combine the flour and baking powder in a medium bowl.

3.     Using a stand mixer, mix shredded carrot, Greek yogurt, cheddar cheese, and old-fashioned oats.

4.     Slowly pour the flour mixture into the wet ingredients. Then add the egg and chicken broth. (You can substitute water for the chicken broth if needed).

5.     Mix until well combined.

6.     Preheat oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

7.     Roll 1 tsp portions into balls and place on the baking sheets. If you are making footballs, pinch both ends of the dough ball and flatten using a fork. Draw football laces with a butter knife.

8.     Bake for 12 minutes until the outside has toasted and the inside is soft.

9.     Remove from oven and cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.

10.  Transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling.

11.  Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 6 months.
