Husky vs Pomsky? What’s The Difference?

Comparing Pomskies and Huskies - What Sets Them Apart?

Guest Blog Post By: Pippy Pomsky

Pomskies and Huskies are two of the most popular dog breeds around. They're both beautiful, majestic creatures that make fantastic pets. The question is, what exactly sets them apart, what makes them different, and most importantly, which one is best for you! Let’s take a closer look at the key differences between Pomskies and Huskies.

Size

One of the most obvious differences between Pomskies and Huskies is their size. On average, Pomskies weigh between 20 and 30 pounds, while Huskies can weigh anywhere from 35 to 60 pounds. Whether or not your Pomsky takes on more of their Husky or Pomeranian background will play a huge part in how big your Pomsky will be. The difference in size between the two can also be attributed to the fact that Huskies are a working breed, while Pomskies are considered a designer breed.

Coat and Color

Another significant difference between these two breeds is their coat and color. Both Huskies and Pomskies have thick, luxurious coats that help protect them from cold weather. However, Huskies typically have a wavy coat that is multi-colored, while Pomskies usually have a straight coat that is white or cream in color. Both breeds do shed quite a bit in the summer time and this is definitely something you will have to get used to with either breed. Keeping your Husky or Pomsky cool and the summer maintenance that comes with that can come to a surprise for those who aren’t prepared.

Temperament

When it comes to temperament, there are also some key differences between Huskies and Pomskies. Huskies are known for being independent, headstrong, and sometimes even aggressive. On the other hand, Pomskies are typically more gentle, loving, and need more attention. Both breeds make fantastic pets but you will want to do some self-reflection and ask whether or not you want a more independent dog or one that is more reliant upon you. This difference in temperament is said to be attributed to the fact that Huskies were bred as working dogs, while Pomskies were bred as companion animals.
