Sweet Potato Peanut Butter Donuts for Dogs

Ingredients:

·       1 sweet potato

·       3/4 cup milk (skim or 1%)

·       1 egg

·       2 Tbsp honey

·       1 tsp baking powder

·       1 cup whole wheat flour

·       1 gala apple

·       Creamy peanut butter (only ingredient is peanuts, does not have xylitol or sugars)

 Directions:

1.     Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake sweet potato on a foil-lined baking sheet for 60-70 minutes.

2.     Let potato cool slightly, then remove the skin and mash the potato. Let cool completely.

3.     Next, lightly spray your donut pan with cooking spray. We recommend using an olive oil-based cooking spray as is it healthier for your dog. Preheat oven to 350°F.

4.     Using a stand mixer, mix the sweet potato, milk, egg and honey until smooth.

5.     Combine the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl, then add to wet ingredients.

6.     Chop the apple into small pieces, then add to the mixing bowl.

7.     Spoon the batter into the donut pan until the batter is just below being level with the pan. Try to avoid letting the batter go over the center of the donut circle so your donut has a hole in the middle.

8.     Bake for 14-15 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out dry and clean. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer onto a cooling rack.

9.     Using the back of a spoon or a butter knife, spread the creamy peanut butter on the donut. If the donuts are still warm, the peanut butter will spread and melt easily.

10.  Enjoy!
