Soft Pretzel Dog Treats

This recipe for dog treats contains six healthy ingredients and are a great treat for game day.

Ingredients:

• 1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour

• 1 Cup Old-Fashioned Oats

• ½ Cup Sugar Free All-Natural Applesauce

• ¼ Cup Finely Grated Carrot (about half of a whole raw carrot)

• 1 Large egg

• 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 325° F and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. Blend 1 cup of Old-Fashioned Oats in a food processor or blender to create a flour texture.

3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the blended oats and whole wheat flour.

4. Add the applesauce, grated carrot, egg, and coconut oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until well blended.

5. Once fully combined, take the dough out of the bowl, and knead the dough into a ball on a cutting board. The dough should be dry enough to roll into long ropes. If the dough is too sticky, let it rest on the cutting board for 5 minutes. If the dough is too dry, add a little bit more coconut oil.

6. Once you have the right consistency of dough, take off a piece of the dough and roll it into a long rope (about 8 inches long and ¼” thick).

7. Shape your dough into pretzel shapes. Form the rope into a U shape. Take one top of the U and bring it down to cross over the bottom corner on the opposite side. Take the other top of the U and cross it over to the opposite corner of the U. (See picture below to form the correct shape).

8. Place pretzels on the prepared baking pans.

9. Bake at 325° F for 20 minutes. Turn the pretzels over on the baking sheet and bake for another 8-10 minutes. The pretzels will be done when they are golden and can be removed from the pan in one solid piece.

10. Remove pretzels from the pan and let cool completely on a wire rack.

11. Once completely cooled, serve a pretzel to your dog. They will love having a fresh and healthy treat! Store these treats in the refrigerator or freezer.
