Snow Covered Dog Donuts

Donut Ingredients:

  • ½ cup sugar free applesauce

  • 2 Tablespoons of honey

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour

  • 3 Tablespoons of water

Frosting Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of Greek yogurt (Nonfat, Plain, No Xylitol, and free of any added sweetener)

 Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Lightly grease all 6 holes of a regular sized donut pan.

  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the applesauce, honey, and egg until smooth.

  4. Add 1 cup of whole wheat flour to the bowl and mix the wet ingredients with the flour until a batter is formed.

  5. Add 3 Tablespoons of water to make the batter less dry and mix until well combined.

  6. Fill each mold of the donut pan until the batter is level with the pan.

  7. Bake for 20 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the center of the donut and if it comes out clean, the donuts are fully cooked.

  8. Remove from pan and let cool completely on a cooling rack.

  9. Once the donuts have cooled completely, spoon plain yogurt into a disposable sandwich bag and cut one corner of the bag.

  10. Seal the top of the sandwich bag and squeeze yogurt out of the cut corner to pipe the “frosting” onto the dog donuts.

  11. Refrigerate the donuts for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
