Pumpkin Frosted Donuts for Dogs
These homemade dog donuts are packed with nutrients from carrots, peanut butter, and pumpkin. Your dog will enjoy celebrating the season with these fall treats for dogs.
Donut Ingredients:
½ cup Carrots (shredded)
½ cup Pumpkin Puree (unsweetened, pure pumpkin only)
¼ cup Greek Yogurt – Nonfat, Plain, No Xylitol, and free of any added sweetener
1 Large egg
1 Tablespoons Creamy Peanut Butter (only ingredient is peanuts, does not have xylitol or sugars)
1 Tablespoon Pure Maple Syrup
½ cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
Frosting:
1-2 Tablespoons Greek Yogurt – Nonfat, Plain, No Xylitol, and free of any added sweetener
1 Tablespoon Creamy Peanut Butter (only ingredient is peanuts, does not have xylitol or sugars)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F. Lightly spray a non-stick mini donut pan with olive oil non-stick spray, then wipe the excess oil out of each opening.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the shredded carrots, pumpkin puree, Greek yogurt and egg. Stir until the mixture is smooth.
Add the peanut butter and maple syrup to the wet ingredients and stir to combine.
Pour in the whole wheat flour and baking powder and mix the batter until the ingredients are fully combined and there are no lumps.
Spoon the batter into a sandwich bag, then cut the corner of the bag to make it easier to fill each compartment of the mini donut pan. Fill each compartment of the mini donut pan just below the top so the batter has space to rise.
Bake in the oven at 350° F for 20-25 minutes, until the tops are toasted brown.
Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer the mini donuts to a wire cooling rack.
Allow the dog donuts to cool completely.
Combine 1-2 tablespoons of yogurt and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter in a disposable sandwich bag and squish the bag to mix them together until they are fully combined.
Cut the corner of the sandwich bag and pipe the peanut butter and yogurt mixture onto each donut as “frosting”.
Store the donuts in a container in the fridge for 7 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
